I really miss being able to get to Scotland. There is a small car park just off the road (A837), which is about a 20 minute drive from NC500Pods. Canisp is a mountain in the far north west of Scotland, it is situated in the parish of Assynt 25 kilometres north of the town of Ullapool. At the far side of this is the stony summit of Canisp, with two windshelter cairns a short distance apart. A spectacular walk in West Sutherland from Lochinver to Achmelvich beach (and return). In 2005, the lodge was bought by the community of Assynt and is now run by an enthusiastic, local young pair of individuals - Peter Mackenzie and Terri Macdonald. Immediately after this look out for a gate and the start of a path going off to the right; it is just before the road crosses the river and is signed 'Glencanisp Loop 6km' - though the walk is actually over a kilometre longer. There is also a great view of Canisp on the way to NC500Pods from the A837 (provided you dodge the mist). Suilven is probably the most recognisable mountain in Scotland due to its unique shape.
